I think women should focus on taking risks to accelerate their career, because by not doing so, I believe that they miss out on opportunities.
I took a risk about 10 years ago. In the midst of the financial crisis, I was managing a portfolio of high-yield bonds, and I was also two months pregnant with my first child.
There was a lot of change at our organization that presented a new opportunity for me.
My knee-jerk reaction was that it wasn’t a good time.
I ultimately took the role, and it ended up being a transformational point in my career.
To truly achieve leadership, you have to push yourself outside your comfort zone, and so I think the first thing women can do is focus on taking action, in participating, in contributing, in finding your voice, and sharing your voice.
My advice to women is to believe in yourself, and take action. Quit overthinking, quit overanalyzing, quit being afraid of failure. Have confidence in yourself, believe in yourself, and do it. You can do it.
