What kept me going during this pandemic was knowing that I was working for something bigger than me.
Biltmore is America’s largest home, built in 1895 in Asheville, North Carolina.by George Vanderbilt.
We host over 1.7 million people a year. We’re a place where people can come and experience hospitality Vanderbilt style.
When the pandemic started, we furloughed over 90% of our employees. That was the toughest thing we’ve ever had to do.
We’ve seen the Biltmore Company in tough times before and we’ve seen them recover. They’ve always risen to the occasion.
It was probably the easiest decision we had in the very stressful early days of the pandemic to help them weather this storm.
Wells Fargo relieved one of our greatest fears — running out of cash. And within one week, they doubled our lines of credit. So we could ignore our cash concerns to focus on opening the business.
We have most of our employees back with us today. But we have more than we desperately want to bring back as quickly as we possibly can. We work every single day to try to expand that safely and do it profitably so that we can preserve a national treasure.
