Phil Smith, head of Wells Fargo Specialized Industries: I think male leaders need to be intentional about advocating for women in leadership. Establishing an inclusive environment allows us to get everyone’s ideas on the table. It allows us to think about things from a different perspective.
And so a lot of times, making sure you have an inclusive environment is really about making sure you’re driving the best idea, that you arrive at the best decision because you’ve taken all relevant input, not just the dominant people in the room, or the people who’ve historically been dominant in the room.
You know, on a personal level, I have two daughters. And I want them to go out into the world and be able to achieve their dreams and compete on a fair basis, and have every opportunity that any man has.
Also, on a professional level, I worked alongside many talented women, and I think we always do better when people are given a fair and equal opportunity. When women are empowered as leaders, everybody wins.
